Mongolia looks like a piece of cake to navigate! Mind you, roundabouts can be a bit tricky.

Tsangaannuur - Ulaan Baatar: Google directions:

Head South - 281km

Turn Right - 1.1km

Take the 2nd Left (go through one roundabout) - 1,462km

Turn Right - 1.2km.

What's this all about?

In the summer of 2010, my girlfriend, Justyna, and I participated in the Mongolia Charity Rally, driving a slightly dented Renault Kangoo van called Genghis from Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

Whilst on the road I was largely limited to SMS blog posts due to a lack of laptop, meaning updates were few and far between (quite literally, until we ran out of tarmac in Western Kazakhstan).

What I'm trying to do on this blog is provide more in-depth posts about each day of the trip, for posterity - and maybe, perhaps, to give anyone thinking about taking part in this amazing adventure a bit of insight into what to expect. Although being almost a year now since the trip, recollections may prove a little hazy.

The aim is to go through the trip day by day - 35 days in total. I'm a sporadic blogger at the best of times, so updates will happen as and when I can manage it. I'll include the original blogs from the Charity Rallies site as introductions where appropriate.

The video below is a first attempt at editing the 2.5 hours of footage I took on the road (when I remembered I had a video camera with me). Not the slickest, but brings a tear to my eye even now.

For those not familiar with blogs, the oldest posts (i.e. the start of the trip) are at the bottom of the screen, the newest at the top. So to read from top to bottom has the effect of going back in time. Just so you know. There's a handy link to the first post here
